Box Score EMPORIA, Kan.- Newman led from the opening-tip, and raced to a 77-60 victory over Emporia State Wednesday evening inside the W.L White Auditorium in Emporia, Kan.
Bobby Wesley finished with a career-high 22 points and seven assists in the win.
The Newman men's basketball team used a barrage of three-pointers and a stingy defense to out-score Emporia State at halftime, 36-27. The Jets started the game on a 15-3 run, highlighted by three
Connor Walker's three-pointers in the first six and a half minutes of the game. Newman controlled the pace early, holding the Hornets to only one field-goal in the first eight minutes of the game. Walker led a balanced attack for the Jets, scoring nine points on 50 percent (3-6) shooting, as eight Jets scored in the half.
Bobby Wesley led Newman on the glass, logging four rebounds. The Jets shot 37.5 percent (12-32) from the field, but connected on 54.5 percent (6-11) of their three-point attempts. Newman held Emporia State to 35.7 percent (10-28) from the field, and out-rebounded the Hornets 21-18 for the period.
The second half proved to be much of the same for Newman.
Bobby Wesley broke out, scoring 16 second-half points. The Jets broke open the game at the 17:57 point in the game, leading 41-31. This was the closest Emporia State came in the period, as Newman went on a 15-4 run to open the lead to 21, the largest lead of the game. Newman emptied the bench late in the game, letting every Jet that traveled log some playing time. The Jets shot 46.7 percent (14-30) for the half, and 46.2 percent (6-13) from beyond the arc.

Bobby Wesley scored a game-high 22 points, and assisted on seven baskets, both of which were career highs.
Mason Felter also set a career-high with 14 points on the evening.
Chuck Coley and
Eric Saunders joined Wesley and Felter in double-figures, netting 11 and 10 points respectively.

Chuck Coley led Newman with eight rebounds, and the Jets out-rebounded the Hornets 40-36 for the game.
-Newman shot 41.9 percent (26-62) from the field for the night, and 50 percent (12-24) from three-point land.
-The Jets held the Hornets to 36.7 percent from the field, and 30 percent from outside the arc. Newman held ESU's leading scorer Derrell Conner to just eight points, nearly five points below his season average.
With the win, the Jets improve to 6-2 on the season. They will return to action Saturday, hosting William Jewell in a 4:30 p.m. contest inside Fugate Gymnasium.
