The Match-Up
About the Jets...
The Jets will look for their seventh-straight victory in their series opener on Friday against the Texas A&M International Dustdevils. Following a sweep of Oklahoma Panhandle State on Feb. 18, Newman picked up a huge mid-week game over perennial power Central Oklahoma, 18-11. On the season, the Jets have scored the same amount of runs (42), and have recorded the same amount of hits (73) as their opponents. As a team, Newman is hitting .235 as a team, hitting five home runs.

Scouting Texas A&M-International...
The Dustdevils come into the series with an overall record of 7-3, and a 6-3 mark in Heartland Conference play. TAMIU has won series' against Heartland Conference opponents, OPSU and Texas-Permian Basin thus far in the season. The Dustdevils are led offensively by junior Jason Shimmel's .360 batting average. The trasfer from Hill College, possesses a .515 on-base percentage on the season. TAMIU's pitching staff is piloted by junior Menlo Mendoza. The right-hander from Navajoa Senora, Mexico, owns a 1.50 ERA, striking out eight batters on the year.

Last Time Out...
Newman picked up a mid-week victory over Central Oklahoma in a slugfest on Tuesday, 18-11 at Wendall Simmons Field in Edmond, Okla.

Tanner Vinson started the scoring barrage in the top of the first, leading off the game with a home run. Terrell Brown followed Vinson with a single, and advanced to second on an error by the left fielder. A passed ball advanced Brown to third, who was drove in by a David Longmore single to put the Jets up 2-0.

After giving up a run to Central Oklahoma in the bottom of the frame, Newman answered in the top of the second. Jordan Ollenberger led off the inning with a single to right, then moved to second on a Jacob Gaul sacrifice bunt. Vison drove in Ollenberger with a single to left field to put the Jets up 3-1.

The Bronchos gallopped back in the bottom of the third, plating two runs on two hits to tie the game at 3-3. After each team scored in the fourth inning, the game was tied 4-4 going into the fifth. Newman turned a tie-game into a near washout, 12-4, scoring eight runs on three hits, including two three-run home runs by Vinson and Corey Cowan. Central Oklahoma responded with four runs in its half of the inning, but the Jets closed out the game with a pair of runs in the sixth, single runs in the seventh and eighth, and two more runs in the ninth to close out the 18-11 shellacking.

The Jets used seven pitchers in the win, including an appearance by Jace Moore in the fifth. The junior from Moscow, Kan. picked up his first victory of the season, pitching 1.1 innings, and picked up a strikeout while surrendering just one hit.
