Newman, which netted 66 points in the first half, was one point from matching its NCAA-era team record for points in a game.

HISTORY LESSON
After falling to both the Patriots and Chaps in both regular season contests last year, the Jets faced both teams again in the Heartland Conference tournament. The first was a thrilling 81-79 win over LCU in the quarterfinals, although DBU grabbed a 95-87 win in the semis. Overall, Newman holds an 11-8 lead in the all-time series against Dallas Baptist since moving to Division II, while Lubbock has a 4-1 edge over the Jets in their short history.
NOTES
-The three teams involved in this weekend's games are three of the eight teams that are locked into a battle nearly a third of the way through the Heartland Conference season. All eight teams are within two games of each other, with the Jets currently tied with St. Edward's at the top of the standings.
-Newman's offense has continued to click, and the Jets are now up to averaging 99.6 games in Heartland play, which is nearly 15 points better than the second-best team.
-That scoring output is boosted along by the Jets hitting 78.0 percent of their free throws, which is tops in the conference and 13th in all of Division II. Bolstering that run is Daniel Nwosu, who is 24th in the country at 90.1 percent. The senior won the Heartland Player of the Week award after averaging 25.5 points in a pair of games last week.
-DBU's Patrick Burke has connected on an impressive 69.2 percent of his shots from the floor, which is second in the country.
-Lubbock Christian will provide a tough test for the humming Newman offense, as the Chaps are allowing just 70.1 points per game overall, and a conference-leading 63.4 in five league games.
