The Match-Up
About the Jets...
The Jets will look to hold on to the No. 3 spot in the Heartland Conference standings, when they travel to Goodwell, Okla. for a three-game series with the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies. Newman swept OPSU in three games on Feb. 17-18 at McCarthy Field. The Jets snapped a six-game losing streak on Tuesday, with a 2-1 victory over non-conference rival Emporia State. Newman has had several players step up in recent weeks. Jordan Ollenberger has boosted his batting average to .302 after a 2-for-4 outing on Tuesday. Ben Wagner pushed his average to .271 following a team-high three hits against Emporia State. Out of 252 hits on the season, Newman has turned 52 of them into extra bases.

Scouting OPSU...
The Aggies have struggled much of the season, holding a 4-27 overall record, with a 3-18 Heartland Conference mark. One bright spot for OPSU has been senior Curtis Neal, who owns a team-high batting average of .349. Sean Williams is the ace of the Aggie staff, striking out a team-best 45 opponents on the season.

Last Time Out...

The Newman baseball team broke a six-game losing streak on Tuesday, defeating non-conference rival Emporia State, 2-1 at Glennen Field in Emporia, Kan. Ben Wagner led the Jets going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Game Notes...
-Emporia State (19-9) took a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
-Newman (18-13) spread four hits over the next four innings, and plated its first run of the game when Ben Wagner scored on a Hornet error at third base.
-The Jets took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, when David Longmore singled through the right side, and moved to second on a Jordan Ollenberger single to right field. A Wagner single to first base scored Longmore, and gave Newman the 2-1 lead they went on to win by.

Newman starter Tony Gonzales pitched five innings, allowing one earned run, while striking out three Hornets.
